Austrian Premiere of Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín
The Austrian premiere of Maestro Murry Sidlin’s Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at 7:30pm in the historic Konzerthaus Vienna with the world-renowned Orchester Wiener Akademie and Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno. Featured soloists will be soprano Aga Mikolaj, mezzo-soprano Janina Baechle, tenor Bruce Sledge, and bass Jongmin Park. The performance will be given in both German and English with the roles of “Rafael Schächter” and “The Lecturer” portrayed by well-known Austrian actors Erwin Steinhauer and Katharina Stemberger, respectively.
Presented by The Defiant Requiem Foundation, this performance is being given under the Auspices of Doris Bures, President of the Austrian Parliament, with sponsorship from almost a dozen Austrian corporations, grants from the Austrian Future Fund and the Austrian National Fund, support from the Jewish Community of Vienna and the Austrian Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, and lead gifts from the W.L. Lyons Brown Jr. Fund and Ambassador Swanee Hunt in honor of her late husband Maestro Charles Ansbacher.
